Star Wars - The Clone Wars

ok, first off to the people who said its not real star wars its a kids movie. The original star wars were intended to be kids movies, so they are finally getting back to the original feel for the movies. With episodes 1-3 they tried to make it more adult drama and look how well that worked out for them. The story was a true star wars plot, they kept alot of technical data accurate and brought in alot of references to movies past and present to tie in the continuity of the story. They covered a section of the story that has been left out and filled in some more of the gaps,further developing the story for the next movies to come out. Lets hope lucas finally decides to make ep 7-9 =)

McCain Vs Obama

Still not 100% sure on who I am voting for but so far McCain is in the lead. He has a military background and knows how the military works and has experience in world politics. Where as Obama wants to sit down with the Quadafi types and try to work things out. Terrorists aren’t very open to negotiations, to them we are the great devil who must be defeated in the name of thier god. Talking to us and reasoning out a peaceful existance is NOT in their plans. Obama wants to withdraw the troops from Iraq right away, yet another mistake. We are there now and we need to finish what we started. Yes its a mess but if we withdraw, we will lose untold troops to poorly laid withdrawal plans as well as leave the entire region more unstable than it was when we got there. The war has entered its longest phase yet, the hearts and minds. We are starting to see groups who were initially against us, coming to our side. They are beginning to see where the terrorists are willing to take thier country and are doing to thier own fellow citizens and finally are standing up against them as well. We need to continue to perservere and to build that country, one road, one school and one city at a time. If Iraq suceeds in becoming a democracy, there are further benefits. The people of Iran have been on the brink of revolution for a decade and if they are right next door to a country where there is free markets, no persecution or tyrants running the country into the ground, nor denying rights and freedoms, it will only spread.

PHP and mysql

Started to really dig into learning PHP and mysql this week. wow at first it was a bit daunting but the more you learn the more there is to learn. Its the first language I have gotten this far in and the further i read, the more i learn, the more i WANT to learn. Once i get classes and objects down, I am going to move on to adding in some AJAX to my toolkit to create more interactive, dynamic sites.

Busy month

Its been a busy month since i last blogged.

Work - waiting on my next class called ROLP in 1st qtr of next year then ill be fully trained and just waiting for my own store to open up for me to get promoted to GM. good news. Had some other drama at work..

Scuba Diving - Finally got my Open Water Certification done, if all goes well ill be advanced diver certified by the end of July, im putting in alot of dives this month to get there. Not sure when ill get to rescue diver but thats my next goal. After that is some specialties and dive master or master diver,, depending on which way i go, yes same sounding names, 2 different branches of training. Being an instructor would be kewl though and i would LOVE to go into commercial diving.

Waiting for the new regulator to come out, beleive its the aries or mares aeon. it scored top of its class in breathability tests as well as size and function. It comes with the environmental kit already installed and comes with a free regulator with its purchase. Gyro octo here I come =)

My site kenoshagas.com is still putzing along, trying to find a way to market it so that people use it, its a great service, it shows all of kenosha and where the cheapest gas prices are in town, even does a little google map for ya.

THegeekhosting.com is still plugging along, but i need to really focus on a redesign and some upgrades to get it fully competitive with the market im in.

Men of Honor

Was watching men of honor and realized what a great movie it is now that ive finally seen it all the way through. Its hard not to like cuba gooding jr tho, he is a really good actor and with Robert Deniro as the foil to his good guy character, whats not to love?

Went and got my Fins today, went with the Dacor Tigers,, after trying them out on my first 2 dives, i really liked them. Got the Oracle mask from sherwood and my snorkel today too. The last things I need to get are my regulator, octopus, comp and a good tank. Would love to win a comp this weekend in a raffle. So by the end of august I am hoping to have my advanced diver certification and will be able to start on my rescue diver certification. Hoping to volunteer for the local rescue dive team and get some experience over the winter months. Would love to be able to get some ice diving in this winter as well.

On a work note, found out today that i will get to go to McDonalds ROLP course 1st qtr of 2009, which is a General manager level course. I am going to start doing the managers schedules, business planning and P&L projections etc. So I am finally moving into new territory. Ive been with corporate for less than 3 years and will be ready and waiting for a general manager positiion to open up in the company. We are also going to be the seed store< store that other stores go to see how new things work> for the new McCafes getting build into mcdonalds. We will be service mocha, lattes, real hot chocolate, etc. and we are also only one of 4 stores in the nation trying out the new management program developed by McDonalds. so there will be stores coming from all over the nation to our store, so with me being ready to get promoted, and getting alot of face time with alot of high corporate managers and vps.

HVAC and a friend’s dad

Well today starts my first day of vacation and I am spent it learning how to do HVAC service calls. HVAC service calls on vacation you may ask? I get paid vacation, and my friend’s dad owns his own HVAC company that he does by himself. Since my friend is graduated college and moving on to bigger and better things, his dad needed some extra help and I happen to have time off. For me its more about spending time with someone who I look up to as one of my father figures and helping him out in his time of need, as well as rounded out my construction education. With a touch up of electrical, I could build a house of plans and complete every task needed. Which is a good feeling. I would still avoid plumbing and roofing if i could but thats more personal preference than anything. Plus at the end of vacation Ill have a nice check to finish paying my mom off and since im reorganizing the business side of my life I will be redoing my finances in short order to where I can save a couple hundred a month on my business operating costs. Part of it is bitter sweet but I know that taking the step back now and focusing on a different aspect of the business will help me be in a better place to grow the business when the time comes as well as prepare my personal finances to handle it as well.

One more day

One more day till my 28th birthday, one last class to teach and then im on a week of vacation. Wish i had something better to do that clean around the house but with gas prices being the way they are, the business taking so much time and money to get going right now its a sit at home kind of vacation,, unless someone wants to take me on vacation? j/k

Work is going great, one last thing to take care of and its a week of peace and quiet. we start that new program this week so it should be a great week. I am in the perfect position to get noticed when we do good. We are the best of the 4 stores picked for the pilot program and I am the 1st assistant of that store. So when things go good, ill be there and my team will get the credit, which is always good to get face time with the upper chain of command.

Will post more later but interested in what everyone is doing this week.

Well, today I got to go to the famous Hamburger University. The Home of McDonalds and its training programs and much much more. Our store was hand picked to be one of 4 stores trying out a new management program. We were semi nervous at first but once we reviewed the new program, our store was already doing alot of the core things. Some stores it will take awhile to transition to but for us, it could be done in as little as a week of changes, then its just fine tuning and building the sales and business.

Excited to see where this takes us since our store will be visited and watched by ALOT of top managers and directors.
